Here at the Centre, we have all been rather taken by the news story that Trading Standards have just recruited a new officer to join in the fight against DVD piracy ... Dixie, a springer spaniel!

According to The Telegraph report, Dixie will be able to 'sniff out' illegal DVDs and is due to commence operations in circumstances such as car boot sales and the likes.

As you can probably imagine, this gave us 'paws' for thought and got as all to pondering exactly how a fake DVD would smell any different from a legitimate one - a flight of fancy which had us all sniffing thoughtfully at our DVD collections.  Naturally, this exercise proved to be somewhat fruitless as no-one here at the Centre would ever come within a mile of a dodgy DVD, so they all smelled exactly the same!

Much to our combined disappointment, a little further research revealed that Diixie can only sniff out the DVDs ... she can't actually tell whether they are dodgy or legit - so it is down to the 2 legged officers to check that out!

What a shame .... we were all hoping that her extraordinary success was down to the discs smelling a bit fishy!!
